The importance of communication skills for engineers - (Task 3)

"I contend that we (engineers) are undervalued because of our widespread inability to explain what we do to the general public (and why it is so important). It is one of the hardest goals to accomplish, to be able to boil down difficult concepts into a short easily understood presentation or elevator pitch."

- Marybeth Miceli, President Miceli Infrastructure Consulting, USA (2011).

Often, people overlook the importance of communicating efficiently and effectively to the listener. To effectively convey the information we receive and the tasks we perform, it is crucial to comprehend the task and break it down into bite-size chunks that can be understood better by the listener. It is also helpful to have good communication skills in an every-day working environment, especially when it comes to tasks requiring teamwork and work that is ever-changing.
